American Cancer Society
San Antonio The artistic cows are coming to graze in the beautiful Alamo City. Hundreds of artists, professional and amateur, from throughout San Antonio and South Texas will be painting and decorating life-sized fiberglass cows in preparation for CowParade San Antonio. San Antonio will serve as an urban pasture to the herds of painted, costumed, festooned and creatively transformed cows that will be on display on streets, parks and landmarks starting in November 2002.
CowParade first began in Zurich, Switzerland in 1998, and both the 2000 CowParade in New York City and the 1999 CowParade in Chicago were widely touted as the most successful public art programs in the cities history. Over 44 million people viewed the New York event and the Chicago event generated nearly $500 million in economic impact.
Celebrating San Antonio. CowParade San Antonio is a wildly successful public art exhibition designed to celebrate the spirit of San Antonios distinct cultural heritage, public art and the fight against cancer. From Alamo Plaza to the Mission Trails, this event will inspire tourists and San Antonio residents alike to explore San Antonio anew.
In Zurich, Chicago and New York City, CowParade made history as one of their most successful art and civic spirit programs ever, said Jerome D. Elbaum, president of CowParade Holdings. People simply fall in love with the cows. They encourage dialogue and connect people from all walks of life, forging a real sense of community. I am confident the San Antonio community will welcome their new neighbors and the community will rise to the challenge to make this event a success, he added.
In conjunction with CowParade Holdings Corporation, this unique art exhibition will be hosted in San Antonio with cooperation from: Honorary Co-Chairs Mayor Ed Garza; City Manager Terry Brechtel; and Dr. Mahendra Patel; The Office of Cultural Affairs, The Office of Economic Development, The City of San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Parks & Recreation Department and The American Cancer Society San Antonio Office. The CowParade San Antonio team is led by Cattle Barons Co-Chairs John and Amy Hayes and CowParade San Antonio Co-Chairs Al Aguilar and Gisela Girard.
Sponsoring a Cow. Each cow, or herd of cows, has a sponsor or patron. Corporations, community groups, individual merchants and private citizens can sponsor cows beginning at $7,500 each. During the first month of the launch from June 5th to July 5th a special sponsorship offer of $5,500 will be made available. Sponsors will enjoy a range of benefits, but most importantly San Antonios business and community leaders can show support for CowParade San Antonio and play a major part in the events success. The cows come in three poses: standing, grazing and reclining and weigh approximately 100 pounds each. When installed in their exhibit locations, the cows will be attached to a 500 pound concrete base so as not to walk away. Download more information on sponsorhip opportunities.
